  • David Silva has posted a picture to his Facebook page of him a friend each holding sizeable catches on a fishing trip
  • Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has yet to call his players back for pre-season training
  • Silva faces a tough battle for a place in City's first team with The Sky Blues linked with Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling

David Silva is renowned for finding the perfect angle for a through ball on the football pitch, and it seems his angling skills aren't too bad either.

The Spanish attacker is enjoying some downtime, with his Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini yet to call his players back for pre-season training, and the 29-year-old is making the most of his summer holiday break by going for a spot of fishing at sea.

Silva, who has won two Premier League titles with City since arriving in Lancashire in 2010, posted a picture to his Facebook page, captioned, 'Good day yesterday fishing with my mate Vitolo.'

Last season Silva enjoyed his best ever goalscoring return for City, netting 12 times in 31 league appearances compared to seven in The Sky Blues' title winning campaign of 2013–14.

And with the possible arrival of Wolfsburg's Keven de Bruyne, Liverpool's Raheem Sterling and Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, with Samir Nasri to come back from injury, Silva will be hoping he can come back fresh for pre-season, replicating last year's form, in order to nail down a first team position for the coming campaign.

City take on Australian outfit Melbourne Victory on July 18 before their first Premier League game of the season away at West Brom on August 8.
