Production assistant shot dead as she walked with her boyfriend in Hollywood: Cops hunt shotgun-wielding gunman who fled in sedan
- Carrie Jean Melvin, 30, was killed on Sunday night when a gunman crept up behind her and shot her in the head as she was strolling with her boyfriend
- Police are still looking for the black male suspect in his mid 20s who fled the scene in a sedan
- Homicide Detective John Skaggs said that a motive is still unknown though they say the shooter targeted Melvin and no one else
Homicide detectives searched for clues on Monday to the shocking shotgun slaying of a Hollywood production assistant ambushed while walking along a street in the heart of Hollywood.
The woman, Carrie Jean Melvin, 30, was killed on Sunday night when a gunman crept up behind her and shot her in the head as she was strolling with her boyfriend near Sunset Boulevard, police and coroner's officials said.
The suspect then made his getaway in a black sedan and was still at large as of Monday, according to police.

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall, and wearing a dark hooded jacket.
An LAPD spokeswoman, officer Sara Faden, said the motive for the shooting remained a mystery, with no immediate evidence of whether the killing was a random act of violence or a targeted attack. Police say the shooter targeted Melvin and not her boyfriend but they don't currently know why.
'We just don’t know,' Homicide Detective Skaggs told the LA Times.
'On one hand, she didn’t have any known enemies. On the other hand, it looks like it was directed toward her. … We’re looking at all angles.'
Police Commander Andrew Smith told the Los Angeles Times that investigators were not aware of any similar shootings, leading them to believe it was 'an isolated incident.'

Populated area: The shooting along Sunset Boulevard appears to have been an 'isolated incident' that skaggs said was particularly 'alarming because of the nature of the violence'
Skaggs said the shooting was , 'alarming because of the nature of the violence.'
Skaggs said Melvin and her boyfriend had left their apartment to get food when the gunman approached them and opened fire. Melvin was shot not far from where she lived.
According to Melvin's Facebook page she studied Film and Media Production at the University of Santa Cruz .
Melvin's LinkedIn says she worked as a production assistant for Frederic Golchan Productions from August 2013 to August 2015.

She was most recently employed as CEO at Web to World Media, a branding and social media company where she worked for two months.
Melvin also tended bar at Haven Gastropub Brewery in Pasadena and Steingarten in West L.A.
The Times reported eight people have been killed during the past 12 months within a mile of Sunday's shooting, which occurred three blocks from the intersection of Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, near Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Dolby Theatre complex where the Oscars are held each year.
Faden said detectives were canvassing the area near the murder scene for possible eyewitnesses and surveillance cameras that may have captured the shooting.
