'I was shy in my own skin': Kate Mara stuns in fashion photo shoot as the Fantastic Four star reveals she lacked confidence growing up
Kate Mara looks sensational on the cover of the August issue of Flare magazine so it's a surprise to learn she lacks confidence when she's being herself.
The star of the Fantastic Four reboot poses in colorful summer dresses for the fashion magazine and reveals she was so introverted growing up, her parents were baffled when she announced she wanted to be an actress.
'But I think that’s part of why I wanted to do it,' Mara, 32, said. 'For whatever reason, I was shy in my own skin, and when I was playing other people, I felt more confident.'

She'll soon be heating up the big screen in this summer's blockbuster film, Fantastic Four. And for Flare Magazine's August issue the House of Cards star modeled this season's hottest floral frocks.
For the cover look, the red haired beauty donned this floor length Valentino gown from the Pre-Fall collection. The sheer stunner was covered in embroidered flora and fauna right on trend with Autumn's romantic and whimsical looks.
You won't find this creation in stores just yet. So the dresses we've selected below will do just fine on its behalf. Keep the barely there motif going with a pair of strappy black sandals and you'll strike sartorial gold.
Following her acclaimed performance as journalist Zoe Barnes, going head to head with Kevin Spacey in Netflix's House of Cards, Mara has focused on the big screen and has four movies coming out this year starting with Fantastic Four on August 7.
Then follows Captive with David Oyelowo, The Martian with Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain and Man Down with Jai Courtney and Shia LaBeouf.
She signed up for Marvel's superhero team because, she says, because it's a perfect blend of storytelling.
'You do get that exciting, fantastical action-packed thrilling thing,' she said in her interview with Flare, 'but you also get the emotional and very real human part of who these [characters] are. '
'The movie really is about family coming together and what lengths you would go to protect them.'
Sophisticated: The actress, 32, oozed glamour and poise in the fashion spread
Colorful: The natural redhead wore her colored locks in a chin-length bob as her soft makeup accentuates her brown eyes
Mara plays Sue Storm AKA The Invisible Woman in the Marvel reboot with Michael B. Jordan as her brother Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, and Jamie Bell as Ben grimm, The Thing.
Whiplash star Miles Teller is Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards.
She said she had a fun time making the movie and holding her own with the three guys.
'The movie is very intense, so the set was an intense environment. But because of our dynamic, there was a lot of joking around,' she said.
'When you’re having to emote a certain kind of energy and vibe all day, you need to joke around to let off some steam.'
Introverted: The petite star admitted she was so 'shy in her own skin' her parents were baffled when she told them she wanted to be an actress
Role playing: Mara said she has more confidence when she's in character as someone else
The pretty natural red head goes blonde to play Sue Storm but her natural style is evident in the fashion spread for Flare.
She wears her currently auburn locks in a chin-length bob with a side parting so her hair sweeps across her forehead
Her brown eyes are accentuated with a little brown and smoky grey shadow and full brow eyebrows and her look is completed with a little light blush and a dark pink lipstick.
The petite actress makes it clear that while her work puts her in the public eye, she feels no obligation to share her private life with the world.
'It’s so simple to me, because as an actor your job is to convince people you are someone else, and it’s harder to do that when people know a lot about who you are and what you do on a Saturday,' she explained.
'I’m a private person, but I’m a very open person when it comes to my inner circle.'
