'I have a belly, I have cellulite and I still deserve love': Amy Schumer reveals she's proud to inspire other women and admits she's had death threats over her sharp-edged comedy

Amy Schumer is known for not mincing words and in her latest interview she makes it clear she's not about to change her ways even if she gets death threats.

The red-hot comedienne, who's 34, wears blue on the cover of the August issue of Glamour magazine and inside she bemoans the way society expects certain things of women that it doesn't of men.

'There are all these preconceived notions of what it means to be a woman or a girl, and straying from those ideas of femininity is sort of shocking to people,' she explained. 'I have gotten death threats - that was scary. But it just made me want to use my voice more. '

Schumer regularly tilts at sexist windmills on her Comedy Central sketch show Inside Amy Schumer and she's makes no apology for her feminism, saying preconceived notions of what it means to be a girl or a woman have always angered her.

'For women, we're taught to eat less until we disappear. And trained to believe that if you don't look like everyone else, then you're unlovable. And men are not trained that way,' she said.

'Men can look like whatever and still date a supermodel,' she continued. 'I think it's good to see somebody saying: I have a belly. And I have cellulite. And I still deserve love. And to catch the old D. And to not apologize.'

Schumer caused a storm when she turned the air blue during a speech at the 2015 Glamour Women of the Year Awards in June.

'I’m probably like 160 pounds right now, and I can catch a d**k whenever I want,' she told her audience provoking strong reaction on social media.

Her sister Kim Caramele, who asked the questions for the Glamour interview, mentioned one YouTube commentator who wrote: 'If a man talked about catching p***y, the media would be calling him a chauvinistic pig.'

When she asked the Comedy Central star what she thinks about those remarks now, Schumer didn't hesitate.

'If a guy was like, 'I can get p***y whenever I want,' that guy would be a d***head. But to deny that there's a major difference is ridiculous,' Schumer said.

Schumer, who describes herself as innately feminist, say the whole point of her comedy is to empower women and encourage them to 'use their voice and not apologize.'

She wants women to feel comfortable in their own skin and be confident in themselves and not judge themselves based on how they look.

Schumer's interview with Glamour comes as she does publicity for her upcoming movie Trainwreck.

The comedy, which opens July 17 in North America, is directed by Judd Apatow and co-stars Bill Hader and Tilda Swinton.

It marks her first leading role on the big screen.

In an appearance on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show last week, the 34-year-old revealed she had been offered another kind of leading role, that of replacing departing Daily Show host Jon Stewart.

Schumer said she turned the opportunity down.

'It felt like it would be betting against myself,' she told stern. 'OK, this way I'm secure and I know I'll make [money] and I'll have this job but I'm like, 'No. I'm gonna bet on myself that I can do more.''

She also admitted the outfits she would have to wear if she fronted the news panel show put her off.

'I just pictured all the fittings, like all the blazers I would have to wear,' she joked. 'I don't wanna do that.'

She admitted she was flattered they had asked her to take on the role, which has now been handed to Trevor Noah.

'Them asking me made me cry,' she said. 'That they believed in me like that.'
