Boyfriend Alan 'saved me'

Children's TV presenter Kirsten O'Brien was saved from a breakdown by her boyfriend Alan Davies, who plays magician-cum-sleuth Jonathan Creek, she has revealed.

The pair met in London in August 1999, just months after Kirsten's mother had died from cancer.

'My way of coping with her death was to bury myself in work. I was tearing around the country doing three and four jobs in a day and driving myself to exhaustion,' says Kirsten, 32.

'Alan saw what I was doing and said "You can't go on like this, you'll drive yourself into the grave".'

The support of Davies, 33, has helped her to accept her mother's death and to learn to relax. 'Our relationship is very easy. We're great pals,' she adds.
