Standing with shoulders slumped and his hands shoved in his jeans pockets, the actor wore his black jacket zipped up and his white baseball cap pulled down to mask his sorrowful gaze.

A friend even offered him a handshake in consolation, and he reciprocated with a firm embrace.

The on-screen couple's 1987 romantic comedy was arguably his big break, and undeniably Peterson's most famous role.

Peterson eventually left the entertainment industry in 1994 and settled down in Colorado with her husband and two children.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, and an autopsy was performed on Monday.

After the news broke her father told TMZ said that she had been suffering from 'several medical issues' over the past two years, including pneumonia, sinusitis and sleep apnea.

Many celebs shared their sadness over Peterson's death on social media Monday, including Neil Patrick Harris, with whom she appeared on an episode of his breakout show Doogie Howser M.D.

'When I first came to L.A. and started auditioning, Amanda Peterson gave me advice, tips, friendship. She just passed away at age 43. #RIP' he tweeted.

Sarah Michelle Gellar wrote 'When I was younger, I used to want to be #AmandaPeterson. I even asked my mom for a white leather fringe jacket #RipAmandaPeterson,'

Scrubs and Clueless star Donald Faison tweeted that 'Cindy Mancini was my first crush', while Scott Foley posted 'The teen in me is heartbroken.'

On Tuesday Amanda's mother Sylvia told Entertainment Tonight that the two had been gardening together as recently as Wednesday, and that she had been in 'very good spirits' and showed no signs of illness.

Speaking to Us Weekly, she added: 'I just think she was a precious person and it's a big loss. That's all I can say.'
