Jocelyn Petroni, facialist to the A-list, says that double cleansing, proper extractions, and products like spot gels and cleansing brushes can all help young adults combat breakouts. 

'Young teen skin tends to suffer congestion and hormonal breakouts,' Ms Petroni told Daily Mail Australia.

'Thorough cleansing - including a double cleanse at night - plus exfoliating will help keep pores clean.'

Teens can try out an electric cleansing brush to give skin a thorough clean, by loosening make-up, oil and impurities like pollution and dust.

Traditionally costing up to $300, newer varieties such as the Braun Face are a more affordable option for teen budgets at under $100.

While squeezing pimples can be too tempting to resist, Ms Petroni advises taking steps to ensure you don't make the situation worse.

'Teen skin is more delicate and prone to scarring, so extractions should be done post cleanse and steam in the shower.

'[Extract with] tissue-wrapped fingers and apply antiseptic like tea tree afterwards.'
