And according to Variety, the film will actually focus on his unheard of brother who 'never lived up to the family name'.

The script was written by Matt Fogel, who has just two Hollywood credits to his name thus far: as assistant director on Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, while he also wrote Martin Lawrence's Big Momma's House threequel, Like Father Like Son.

Although details of the story are scant, it is understood to be 'a revisionist take' on the classic fairy tales.

Prince Charming, sometimes with a name of his own and sometimes literally named just that, has appeared in countless fairy tales, usually rocking up at the end to save the damsel in distress.

In Disney's Cinderella, the prince is credited as Charming while in Sleeping Beauty he is known merely as The Prince.

In Sleeping Beauty he has a first name - Phillip - but all three heroes more or less serve the same role, and more than likely share the surname.

Recent takes on the character have become more parody, such as in Shrek 2 and 3, where is is the villain, voiced by Rupert Everett.

Prince Charming will be Disney's latest foray into giving its animated classics live action twist, following in the footsteps of Enchanted, Maleficent, Alice In Wonderland and most recently Cinderella.

The studio is also reportedly considering live action versions of Dumbo, Mulan, The Jungle Book, and Beauty And The Beast, as well as a sequel to Alice In Wonderland, Through The Looking Glass.
