Penny's 5 of the best

Origins Liquid Crystal Extra Gentle Cleanser

Vitamin E, safflower, peppermint and grapeseed oils melt make-up, disarm irritants and neutralise toxins before they can disrupt skin. Mix in palm with water, swirl over skin and rinse.

Penny says: Just before I finished filming the last series of Celebrity!, I gave this to the deliciously named Sally Darling. She says it's pretty good. 'It leaves your skin very soft - although on the minus side, it's quite watery.'

Verdict: 8/10

Lancome Eau de Bienfait 2 in 1 Cleanser and Toner for Face and Eyes

Boosted with a cocktail of vitamins, this removes face and eye make-up and tones skin all at the same time.

Penny says: Anne, who occasionally passes me bearing cups of tea, says this is really good as a makeup remover, but she feels her face is cleaner when she uses a separate cleanser and toner.

Verdict: 7/10

Lancaster Aquamilk Eye and Face Cleansing Water, £12.50/ 200ml

Suitable for all skin types, this practical all-in-one foaming liquid will remove make-up from face and eyes in one refreshing action.

Penny says: Andrea McLean, GMTV's weather expert, has sensitive skin - so she expected not to like this because of the 'chemical' smell. 'But,' she said, 'it left my skin really soft and took the make-up off really well.'

Verdict: 8/10

Cariad Aromatherapy Cleansing Lotion Normal-Sensitive

A light cleansing lotion in a pump-top bottle containing mandarin, yarrow and lavender essential oils to soothe and revitalise normal or sensitive skin.

Penny says: I was desperate to like this - it smelled deliciously aroma-ish. But it was too light for me, and I had to keep on slathering more and more of it on, and taking it off with yet more cotton wool to get my make-up off.

Verdict: 6/10

Christy Facial Express 4 in 1 Mimosa and Rosehip Mousse

Works like a mini facial in a bottle to cleanse, tone and moisturise in one go. Apply with a cotton wool pad until face is grime-free. This variety is particularly good for tired, stressed skin.

Penny says: My yoga teacher, Diana, tried this after performing challenging postures all day. 'I liked it,' she said, 'but it's supposed to moisturise, which it didn't. Maybe it's better on young skins. It was non irritating for my sensitive skin, however.'

Verdict: 7/10

And one that's not so good...

Superdrug Optimum 3 in 1 Cleansing Wipes with Natural Fruit and Green Tea

Moisture laden wipes to cleanse, tone and hydrate in one step. Can also be used to remove eye make-up, including waterproof mascara. Contains antioxidant green tea extract and stimulating ginkgo biloba.

Penny says: According to GMTV's roving reporter, Sally Eden: 'These do work, but they're a bit harsh to use around the eyes. I'll keep them in my gym bag for emergencies.'

Verdict: 5/10

Priced £3.99/25
