Acropolis now!

COULD it be that the alacrity with which so many highly-talented South American footballers - like Newcastle's Peruvian Nolbert Solano - have acquired Greek passports ought to be a matter of alarm for Sven Goran Eriksson?

If dispensation to play for a second country - like your long-lost grandmother's - can be arranged just as speedily then England's game in Athens on June 6 could take on an extra dimension equally as threatening as the midsummer heat at the Acropolis and the volatility of the crowds there.

If a bunch of trans-South Atlantic lads like Wor Nobby find a way to turn out for our European rivals, then World Cup qualification is likely to be all Greek to England's multilingual Swedish manager.
