Les Dennis to star in Brookside

Entertainer Les Dennis has been lined up to play a 'slimy' new character who creates a stir with a guest role in Channel 4's Brookside next month.

The Liverpool-born Family Fortunes host will be heading back to Merseyside to work on the soap, in which he will play the father of aspiring model Katrina Evans.

Dennis, 46, said: 'I'm a big Brookie fan and it's great to be working back in my home town again - I'm really looking forward to it.'

The star has been expanding his serious acting work after years of being known for light entertainment. He had a stint as Amos Hart in the stage musical Chicago in London and is currently working on a stage adaptation of Stephen King's novel Misery which opens next month at the Oldham Coliseum.

Dennis, married to The Grimleys star Amanda Holden, plays a businessman who has occasionally been mentioned in the show but never before seen. He is understood to bring shocking news to his daughter who runs the creche, known as Trina's Tots.

Series producer Paul Marquess said: 'I'm delighted that Les is dropping in to Brookside Close. As one of the country's most famous Liverpudlians, it's probably long overdue.

'Although Les is best known as a comedian, he's also a talented actor and I'm sure that his performance as slimy dad of glamorous daughter Katrina will be hugely enjoyable.'
