Not bad for 75, Ringo! Youthful ex-Beatle looks trim in skinny jeans as he celebrates his 75th birthday with wife Barbara Bach

He has battled drink, drugs and depression to come out the other side as one of music's most beloved stars.

And a youthful Ringo Starr celebrated his 75th birthday at his annual Peace and Love ceremony at the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood with his beloved wife Barbara Bach.

Not only did Ringo look years younger than his mid-seventies, with his almost wrinkle-free complexion and washboard stomach, but he also dressed like a teenager (albeit a well-off one) wearing a pair of bespoke Vans emblazoned with a picture of none other than... himself.

The ageing rocker had a little help from his family and friends who joined together to make his special day one to remember.

Proving his edgy style was still very much intact, the singer was cool in a black graphic t-shirt, which featured a red rose motif, and a pair of denim jeans.

The Hey Jude crooner - who this year released his 18th studio album, Postcards from Paradise - doubled up with a matching denim jacket.

But his venture into the daring double denim territory was overshadowed by the rocker's footwear.

Donning some kicks only he could pull off, Ringo paid the ultimate tribute to himself in a pair of Vans which were plastered with a picture of him spraying the words 'Peace and Love,' which was The Beatles' legendary ethos.

The veteran musician was joined by lots of his nearest and dearest at the bash, including his wife and former Bond girl Barbara Bach.

Ringo put his arm around the waist of his love - who he married in 1981 -  as the couple held up peace signs.

The Ringo of today is a complete turnaround from the man he once was.

When his drinking got out of control in the Eighties he became violent and started having blackouts.

One incident in particular convinced him to seek help. He told the Independent: 'I came to one Friday afternoon and was told by the staff that I had trashed the house so badly they thought there had been burglars, and I'd trashed Barbara so badly they thought she was dead.'

Barbara, 67, sported an all black ensemble for the event in a tailored black blazer and tee, black trousers and a myriad of necklaces.

And his spouse wasn't the only celebrity helping Ringo blow out his candles.

The Eagles' Joe Walsh, comedian Richard Lewis, director David Lynch and American rock and blues musician were all there to help their friend celebrate at the event.

One face who wasn't in the crowd was The Beatles frontman Paul McCartney, who was in Norway on his world tour, though the rocker was sure to wish the star a happy birthday on social media.

Roots band Spirit Family Reunion and Adam Arcuragi performed several of Ringo's songs before he Starr took to the stage to lead a countdown to 'peace and love'.

Revealing the first gatherine came 10 years earlier, saying: 'There were about 10 people here. Now look at all of you.'
