Big Brother's 'cash bomb' threatens to derail any hopes of romance between Nick and Harry... while Cristian slams the show as being 'of the selfish or the selfless'

Day 54 saw Joel paying £2,500 for a frozen pizza, but Big Brother's latest twist to the 'cash bomb crisis' may spell the end for any hope of a romance between Nick and Harry.

In a twist to the previous day's eviction task, Nick paid £5,000 to pass his nomination on to Chloe, but while she bore no grudges, Nick's love interest Harry was left shell-shocked by his decision.

The busty brunette declared that his Machiavellian stunt had left her 'horrified', with the glamour girl telling the Hertfordshire teen: 'I will never respect your decision. I was shocked that came from you.'

Harry was left in a stunned state by Nick's actions during the 'cash bomb' task - in which the four housemates nominated for eviction could trade places with Chloe in a bidding war using the winner's purse.

Nick, Harry, Sam, and Jack could all bid against each other; however in strange twist of fate, Nick was the only one not to place a bid of £0 - choosing instead to pay £5,000 to buy a place in the final.

With none of the others bidding Nick ensured his place in the show's final, but his usurping antics didn't impress the morally righteous Harry.

However the posh teen stuck to his guns and justified his actions, stating: 'This is what I've wanted my whole life, and £5,000 is the figure that came in my head. £2,500 for a pizza; £5,000 for the final.'

A horrified Harry couldn't bring herself to see it from the 19-year-old's point of view, with her saying: 'To me, winners don't buy their way into the final. No, I don't want to hear you justify your actions by someone else's actions.'

Dwindling funds: The task allowed the four housemates nominated for eviction the previous to trade places with Chloe, but they must enter a bidding war using the winner's purse to secure the prize.

The pair, who have been emotionally and physically close with each other since Harry entered the house in week two, seemed to have reached a breaking point in their tumultuous relationship.

With Harry spilling her true feelings in the diary room, fragilely divulging her changing view on her on/off beau, saying: 'I didn't think Nick would do that to someone. That's horrified me... I'm not comfortable with it.'

Before adding: 'I've kinda lost all respect for him.'

While it looked that Big Brother's cruel use of self-preservation had broken the pair's bond, an emotionally charged second challenge soon seemed to heel the cracks on the surface.

During a task that involved a tombola lottery that could potentially add money to the prize purse and give the housemates an opportunity to read a letter from their nearest and dearest - both Nick and Harry broke down, comforting each other as they cried.

While Nick was read a letter by Danny in which he heard how his family were 'proud' of him, Joel read a sobbing Harry a letter from her sister - in which her sibling appeared to give Nick her blessing.

Later on after the tears had dried and the dust had settled, Big Brother's own star-crossed lovers had a close and emotional encounter in the garden.

While Nick tenderly held and hugged a drained and exhausted Harry, she told him she knew her sister had given the Hertfordshire lad her blessing, saying: 'See, she likes you. She said not to take it out on Nick.'

But while Nick and Harry ended day 55 in each others' arms, Cristian managed to work himself up into a philosophical and angst-ridden mood.

Following Big Brother's attempts to pit the housemates against each other in selfish pursuits, the Bio-Medical Science student slumped onto the sofa and pontificated to anyone that would listen.

Obviously having digested the day's various tasks, he languidly espoused his personal view on this series of the Channel 5 reality show, saying: 'Today really made me realise something...each action in here will either make you feel good or s**t.'

Summing up his lengthy ramblings on his inability to judge Nick on his actions, the 20-year-old student said: 'This process shouldn't be called time bomb, this series should be called selfless or selfish.'
