And Wayne took to his own Twitter account at the same time, as the two had clearly syncronised their announcement.

'Delighted that me and @ColeenRoo have our 3rd child on the way,' he added.

The footballer and his wife are already parents to two sons, five-year-old Kai and two-year-old Klay.

It comes at a happy time, too, as the smitten pair, who have been together for a total of 13 years, recently celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary.

Before the happy announcement, the brunette beauty also hinted shortly beforehand that she is planning to try to stay fit and active throughout her latest pregnancy, tweeting: 'Feeling it!! .... 3rd day back in the gym!! #hardwork.'

Coleen, who married childhood sweetheart and Manchester United star Wayne, also 29, in Italy in 2008, previously admitted she would love to have a little girl.

Speaking shortly after giving birth to Klay in 2013, she told Hello! Magazine: 'I'd probably like another one - not too soon though. I think a girl would complete the family but because the boys get on so well, another boy would be just as nice.

'But at the moment life's good. It's busy but I'm enjoying it.'

However, she also confessed having two children was more difficult than she had imagined.

She said: 'When you become a mum the first time round it makes you realise you don't get much time for yourself. But second time round it's even harder.

'Kai goes to pre-school four days a week, which is good because I get to spend time with Klay and he's quite easy. He's laid-back and happy so I can take him places and he's fine.'

Coleen and Wayne have recently returned from a family holiday in Barbados, which saw the Littlewoods designer show off her slim curves in a bikini, not yet showing a sign of a baby bump.

She was also seen hitting the gym on Tuesday, looking raring to go in leggings and a zipped-up bright green top as she continued on her quest for fitness.

Despite their busy lives, the Littlewoods designer recently claimed that having regular date nights is the secret to her long-term relationship with childhood sweetheart Wayne.

‘We've had our ups and downs and it's been tough at times but we've had so many happy ones too,' she told MailOnline.

'It's just about being as strong individually as we are together and that's all that can happen in a relationship.

'Also now that we have two kids, we make sure that we have time together. We make sure that one night a week we go out for dinner or go to the cinema.'
