  • Soldado has seen his game time limited due to Harry Kane's emergence

Roberto Soldado has told Tottenham he is keen to leave this summer in search of more regular football.

Soldado has two years left on his contract at Spurs and is popular inside the club, despite his failure to score the goals to justify his £26million fee.

He has become a cult figure among supporters but has been unable to thrive in English football since moving from Valencia in 2013.

Mauricio Pochettino is not desperate to get rid of him, and sees his value as a reliable squad player, but the Spanish striker is 30 years old and realises his chances will be limited after Harry Kane’s breakthrough season.

There has been interest from Villarreal in Spain and clubs in Turkey but they have been deterred by Tottenham’s £12m valuation.

Soldado, who reported for pre-season with the Spurs players this week, managed to score only once in the Barclays Premier League last season, and six in his first season in London.

Kane has emerged as Tottenham’s first choice centre-forward during the last 12 months, scoring more than 30 last season, and Pochettino is looking to reinforce in this department.

Spurs made an enquiry about Anthony Martial, an exciting Monaco teenager who has since signed a new contract with the French club.

Emmanuel Adebayor, who has one year left on his contract, is proving difficult to sell because of his large salary.

Adebayor has not started a Premier League game since November and is not part of Pochettino’s plans but has made it clear that he is happy to sit tight at White Hart Lane and see out his contract, unless a big club comes in.

The 31-year-old Togolese striker spent a season on loan from Manchester City in 2011 before joining on a permanent basis.

He enjoyed a prolific spell under Tim Sherwood before falling out of favour with Pochettino.
