Were these his victims as well?

Four boys - three of whom are missing, presumed dead - were last night being linked to Field.

Mark Billington, 15, was found hanging from a tree in 1984 in Meriden, near Solihull, just a few minutes' drive from Field's home.

Two months earlier, he had left his home in Yardley, South Birmingham, but failed to show up for his newspaper round.

His parents, Roy and Winifred, have always insisted their son was murdered.

An inquest returned an open verdict and Home Office pathologist Dr Peter Acland did not rule out the possibility Mark had been sexually abused.

Last night Mr Billington said: 'We have said all along that someone befriended him, abducted him and murdered him.

'This is the sort of man who has been responsible for these sort of activities.' Eleven-year-old Patrick Warren has not been seen since Boxing Day 1996 when he told his mother he was going to stay with his brother.

He lived in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, and again he was only a few minutes' drive from Field.

Patrick was with 13-year-old David Spencer, who also lived in Solihull and has not been seen since.

Two years ago his mother, Christine, said: 'Even if he just got in touch, it would be a relief.'

Teenager Lee Boxell was last seen setting off from his home in Sutton, Surrey, for a football match on September 10, 1988.

Thirteen years later, his parents Christine and Pete still don't know what happened to the 15-year-old.

His mother has previously said: 'Always I will keep hoping that one day Lee will walk through the front door again, safe and well.'
