Three witnesses claim they saved a 14-year-old girl from being raped along a dark trail in Missouri on Thursday night.

After hearing the girl's screams, the Good Samaritans pulled Christopher Muller, 22, off of her and held him down until Springfield police arrived at Greenway Trail near Wilson's Creek.

The three friends, who have not been identified, used their phones as a flashlight and say they found Muller on top of the girl wearing just his boxer shorts.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Muller was arrested and charged on Friday with attempted rape and statutory rape.

The 14-year-old girl was 'completely unresponsive' when police found her but she is listed as being in stable condition.

Police say that the girl was either in 'complete shock' or under the influence of something.

Muller told police he thought the girl was 'hot' and that he also believed she was 15-years-old instead of 14. Police did not say if he knew the girl beforehand.

Muller said he and his friend went swimming in the park that night and that's the reason why he was just wearing boxers.

Muller said that as he was walking back to his car after swimming he remembers being tackled by someone but he is not sure who because he was not wearing his glasses.
