Craig hopes for Mobo repeat

R&B star Craig David will get the opportunity to repeat his stunning record at last year's MOBO awards, having been nominated for three prizes at this year's event.

The 20-year-old Southampton-based singer collected a hat-trick of gongs at last year's ceremony.

But he will face stiff opposition at this year's event from five other acts who have all been nominated for a hat-trick of awards.

Former chart toppers So Solid Crew, Destiny's Child, Missy Elliot, Usher and Oxide & Neutrino, are all in the hunt for a trio of gongs.

Last year David won the best single, best R&B act and best UK newcomer, but he failed to repeat the success at the Brit awards when he walked away empty handed despite a hatful of nominations.

US soul singer Luther Vandross will also collect a lifetime achievement award at the event, while R Kelly will be given a prize for his outstanding contribution to the genre.

The Music Of Black Origin awards will be held in October at the London Arena and will see some of the biggest names in Urban music attending and performing.

US star Kelis will join Radio 1 DJ Trevor Nelson to host the glittering evening.

There are 18 categories in all with 15 being voted for by the music listening public.
