Boys in burkas: Male models walk the runway wearing face-covering robes created by Hunger Games costume designer at Berlin Fashion Week

  • Twist on traditional Islamic dress featured as part of the Sadak SS16 show
  • Presentation took place during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin
  • Colllection compromised of icy blues, iridescent purples and printed silks

A group of male models took to the runway in an array of striking, burqa-inspired designs on Wednesday.

The face-covering garments, which appeared to be influenced by traditional Islamic dress, were created by Serbian-born fashion and stage designer Sasa Kovacevic, who founded the label Sadak.

Fashion lovers attending the SS16 presentation, which was held at Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany, as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, were treated to a palette of icy blues, iridescent purples and paired-back blacks.

One model strutted down the catwalk in a pale blue silk sheet that had an image of two people wearing pastel pink burqas painted onto the front of it.

The luxurious fabric was paired with loose, summer-appropriate trousers in a complimentary colour and rose-coloured loafers.

Another noteworthy look was showcased on a heavily-tattooed model.

He paraded down the runway in a thick black garment featuring an open back and teamed with quirky square-shaped sunglasses and platform loafers and sports socks adorned with heavy gold chain detailing.

Heavy-duty shoes, bold frames and loose-fitting cover-ups were key pieces throughout the show.

A topless brunette model caught the crowd's attention in a pair of off-the-wall white frames, patterned knee-length shorts and a cape that was held on with a 'ME + YOU = <3' ribbon.

And another half naked fellow showcased his six-pack in lilac midi shorts and a flowing long shirt that only had the top button done up.

Sasa Kovacevic graduated in fashion design at Kunsthochschule Weißensee Berlin and also studied stage and costume design at the Academy of Art in Belgrade,

His designs have been featured in the film 'Hunger Games 3, Mockingjay part 1', which starred Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, as well as in Dazed Digital, NY Times and Italian Vogue.

Rather than succumbing to the fail-safe trend of covering clothing in spring-like florals or nautical-inspired print for the warmer months, Sadak created unique, whimsical patterns
