Paula Deen sparks yet another race row after posting a photo of her son Bobby in brownface on Twitter - before blaming and firing her social media manager

  • Paula Deen was sensationally sacked from the Food Network in June 2013
  • 68-year-old star had admitted using the N-word and enjoying racist jokes
  • Had also 'planned a themed wedding with black waiters dressed as slaves'
  • Amid scandal, celebrity chef offered a tearful apology for her racist actions
  • But on Thursday, she posted a picture of her son in brownface on Twitter
  • In image, she and Bobby Deen were dressed as 'I Love Lucy' sitcom stars
  • She has since deleted tweet after being condemned by social media users
  • She has also blamed her social media manager for post - and sacked them

She was sensationally sacked from the Food Network after admitting to using the N-word, enjoying racist jokes and wanting to plan a 'plantation-style wedding' with black waiters dressed like slaves.

But it seems that celebrity chef Paula Deen has not learned her lesson from her 2013 dismissal - after she posted a photo of her adult son in brownface on her Twitter page on Tuesday morning.

In the image, a beaming Paula and her 45-year-old son, Bobby, are seen posing behind a kitchen counter dressed as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, the stars of the popular CBS sitcom, I Love Lucy.

Alongside the controversial photo, 68-year-old Paula wrote: 'Lucyyyyyyy! You got a lot of esplainin’ to do! #TransformationTuesday.' She has since deleted the tweet and image from her page - and has even fired her social media manager, whom she claims was responsible for the online post.

On Tuesday afternoon, Twitter users were taking to the social network to express their disgust at Paula's post, with one user writing: 'I'd bet Paula Deen's comeback is about to crash and burn.'

Another tweeted, 'Is anyone really surprised that Paula Deen and her son learned NOTHING?', in reference to the image, which Page Six notes appears to be from Paula's 2011 Halloween special.

And one said: 'Paula Deen should try transforming into someone who is culturally sensitive.'

And the criticism only heightened after Paula took to Twitter again - several hours after deleting her l Love Lucy post - to seemingly make the most of the web attention by promoting her new cookbook.

In her latest tweet, the star wrote: 'By now I hope y’all have heard my great news, I have a new cookbook available for preorder!' before including a link to a recent blog post about the book.

On Tuesday evening, Paula's representative told E! News that the chef's social media manager was responsible for posting the Halloween special image on her Twitter page - and has since been fired.

'Paula immediately had this picture taken down as soon as she saw the post and apologizes to all who were offended,' the rep told the news site. 'As such, Paula Deen Ventures has terminated their relationship with this social media manager.' The name of the manager was not revealed.

It comes just two years after Paula was the center of a previous race row after a former manager at one of her restaurants in Savannah, Georgia, accused the chef of racially harassing her at work.

In her 2013 lawsuit, Lisa T Jackson alleged that Paula and her brother, Bubba, committed violence, discrimination and racism, which ended her five-year employment at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House.

Jackson wrote that Paula hired her to plan her brother's wedding, before telling her: 'What I would really like is a bunch of little n******s to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties.

'Now, that would be a true Southern wedding wouldn't it?'

She also alleged that Bubba sexually harassed her over the five-year period, frequently used the N-word, referred to President Obama as a 'n***er' and watched pornography on work computers.

In a court deposition, Paula acknowledged using the N-word at the restaurant, which has since closed. She also apparently confessed to wanting to plan a wedding' with black 'slave' waiters.

However, she denied using the N-word in the context of the wedding. Instead, she reportedly said she loved the idea of having older black men dressed in Civil War-era house-slave garb serve guests.

She got the idea from a restaurant that she and her husband ate at in North Carolina or Tennessee.

'The whole entire wait staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets and a black bow tie. I mean it was really impressive,' the disgraced chef said. 'And I remember saying I would love to have servers like that, but I would be afraid somebody would misinterpret.'

One Twitter user questioned whether Paula wakes up and thinks 'What's the most racist thing I can do today?'

By 'somebody,' Deen meant the media, which was covering the lavish wedding.

'It just wasn't worth it,' she said.

According to documents obtained by Radar Online, the queen of Southern Cuisine also referred to an underage waitress as a 'piece of p****', and admitted she didn't mind racist or sexist jokes.

'It's just what they are, they're jokes,' she reportedly said.

In June 2013, Paula issued a grovelling, tearful video apology for her 'racist' words.

‘I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I've done,’ she said in the video statement.

‘I want to learn and grow from this.

'Inappropriate and hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I've made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness.’

Despite her apology, Paula was sacked from the Food Network, on which she had three regular shows, including Paula’s Best Dishes. She also had numerous endorsement contracts canceled.
