Stars of Manson's Girls TV movie recreate intense moments between Charles Manson and hippie follower Linda Kasabian during beach shoot in Malibu

Filming is underway on a new TV movie about Charles Manson and the hippie girls who followed him.

On Tuesday, the leading actors Jeff Ward, as Manson, and Mackenzie Mauzy, as Linda Kasabian, were seen shooting scenes on a beach in Malibu.

In an intense moment, Ward, in character, is seen pretending to hold a drowned little girl in the ocean, letting out a scream of anguish as he lifts the lifelike blonde-haired doll out of the water.

In between scenes, the two stars are seen wrapped in toweling robes as they try to stay warm, which was tough for Ward because he was soaking wet.

Mauzy, who played Rapunzel in the film Into The Woods, was dressed in 1960s style in a psychedelic bikini top and cut-off denim shorts

She wore her strawberry blonde hair long and loose.

Her character Kasabian is the focus of the Lifetime movie that shows how she first met Manson and 'the family' and then gets drawn into their criminal activities.

Kasabian was just 20 when she became embroiled in one of the most brutal murders ever to happen Hollywood - the killing of actress Sharon Tate and her unborn baby.

The drug-fueled savage murder spree known as 'helter skelter' in August 1969 left three others dead and prompted Kasabian to leave the Manson ranch commune.

She later testified in court against the killers Leslie Van Houten and Susan Atkins - and Manson who, though not present at the killings, was charged with orchestrating them - in return for immunity from prosecution.

Manson and his groupies are the subject of a number of TV projects currently.

David Duchovny's NBC series Aquarius, which has been renewed for a second season, revolves around The Manson Family as he plays a cop who goes undercover to track the cult.

It's also been reported that American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis and director Rob Zombie are also developing a limited series for Fox about the people and events connected to the Manson murders.
