Kaia Gerber's inherited some good genes - and we don't mean the denim shorts her mom Cindy Crawford wore in her iconic 1992 Pepsi commercial.

The 13-year-old stunner is the spitting image of her supermodel mother, 49, and she's on the path to earning the modeling chops to go along with it.

Despite her young age, Kaia has just signed a modelling contract with top agency IMG Models, and she's marking the milestone by making her editorial debut in Vogue Italia.

'Now representing: @KaiaGerber. Welcome to the family!' IMG announced on the agency's Instagram page yesterday.

The company shared two black-and-white images of Kaia shot by legendary photographer Steven Meisel, in which the young model poses in a shirt, tie, and peacoat, as well as a fuzzy leopard jacket.

'Unreal,' Kaia wrote on Twitter and Instagram alongside the leopard jacket snap, which featured a beauty look created by celebrity make-up artist Pat McGrath.

As any proud mother would, Cindy also took to Instragram to share one of the beautiful photos, captioning it: 'Guess I better watch my back... Love this shot of @KaiaGerber by #StevenMeisel for @VogueItalia!'

While this is Kaia's first grown-up modelling gig, it's not actually the only time she has posed professionally - in 2012, she was the face of Versace's children's line and Donatella herself said she had her mother's 'very special gift'.

In 2006, Kaia also modeled children’s bikinis by Melissa Odabash. At the time, the photos caused a bit of a controversy, as the then 5-year-old was shot topless, staring over her shoulder with a temporary tattoo on her lower back.

Many critics called the pictures inappropriate. Cindy fired back, claiming it was 'just a fun little photo shoot' and not the beginning of Kaia's modeling career - but the snaps were promptly scrubbed from the Melissa Odabash website.

In the following years, Cindy wanted her doppleganger daughter to take it slow before following in her famous footsteps. In fact, she even told the Daily Front Row that she would have liked Kaia to wait until she was 17 to truly enter the business.

But it seems that now Cindy has finally let Kaia, who is her second child with husband Rande Gerber, fully commit to her dream career.

'She doesn’t want me to start a career too young,' Kaia told Teen Vogue late last year. 'She started modeling when she was 16, but that world is very different now.'

Even if she was reluctant to let go, Cindy still didn't unleash Kaia on the industry unprepared. She's given her daughter some tips for handling herself in the modeling world - and she would know, seeing as how Forbes named Cindy the highest-paid model in 1995.

'She knows so much about it,' Kaia, who has an older brother, Presley, 16, explained. 'I think it would be hard for her to be on set and not say things like, "Psst, Kaia, put your elbow up."'

And her mom isn't the only supermodel she can turn to for advice. The gorgeous tween said that she grew up surrounded by women like Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, and Linda Evangelista - though when she was younger, she hadn't yet realized how iconic these ladies were.

Kaia is also friends with up-and-coming It Girl Bella Hadid, who she calls 'Da Baby Bells'.
