Gwyneth puts on a brave face

With a faint smile, Gwyneth Paltrow makes her first public appearance since the sudden death of her beloved father two weeks ago.

The Hollywood star's eyes were redrimmed as she presented an award to movie producer Harvey Weinstein at the National Film Theatre in London last night.

'It's been a really tough time for her,' said Mr Weinstein, a close friend of the actress.

'I asked her not to come, but she said she would come anyway. That is the type of girl she is.'

The Oscar-winner's father, 58-year-old film director Bruce Paltrow, died of a heart attack when the two were in Italy to celebrate her 30th birthday.
