'Get over yourself!' Katie Hopkins issues Caitlyn Jenner with a tongue-lashing as she urges transgender star to 'be more than just dresses and photoshoots'

Caitlyn Jenner has won worldwide praise for her bravery in going public with her transition from male to female.

However, not everyone is impressed with the 65-year-old Olympian - previously known as Bruce Jenner - and Katie Hopkins has taken to Twitter to slam Caitlyn for focusing on 'dresses and photoshoots'.

Sharing a picture of Caitlyn from her latest shoot to promote the upcoming docuseries I Am Cait, Katie wrote: 'Caitlyn, get over yourself bird. Do something. Say something. Be something. Women are more than dresses & photoshoots.'

Reaction to the post was mixed with comments including 'you're the reason I question humanity,' 'Katie - be decent - be silent,' and 'he's done more with her career than you ever have as a born woman so stand down on this one Katie,' and 'Hopkins your an inspiration to all women on how not too be (sic).'

However, some people did agree with Hopkins, writing: 'I agree with you! Not just Caitlyn-but every women who ever stands there being photographed in a dress as if it was ALL there is' and 'ha ha so true. She's already wrecking My head I've a pain in my face hearing about her nobody cares anymore.'

Caitlyn has been vocal about her excitement at finally getting to wear feminine clothing in public after years of hiding her true self.

Clips from her forthcoming reality TV programme show her going through her wardrobe and showing off her clothing to step-daughter Kim Kardashian.

However, she is also determined to use her profile to highlight the troubles faced by less privileged transgender people and recently released her first blog post in partnership with WhoSay, in which she outlined her plans on how she will be addressing this.

'The response to my new journey has been overwhelmingly positive, and I'm eternally grateful for all of your sweet messages, letters and gifts,' Caitlyn wrote.

'Up until now, I have totally isolated myself from the transgender community so I have a lot of catching up to do.'

She added: 'I feel such a responsibility to this courageous group to try to get it right and tell all sides of the story. To me, that's always the biggest question: Am I doing it right?

'I've heard every horror story there is in the book. You wouldn't believe the types of ordeals these people have had, how they have had to literally fight for their own survival. Many trans teens are bullied and abused in high school. It's just horrendous. Then there's the other dark side of this issue: did you know that nearly 25% of the women in high-end sex business are reportedly trans women?*

'Seeing how my new friends have overcome their adversities is such an inspiration. They are so well-adjusted and smart. I'll be sharing their stories here in the coming weeks and I can't wait for you to get to know them. They are just like you and me.

'This is the first in a series of editorials where I will discuss the serious issues and lessons that I am learning through this process. I have so much to discover and hope that you'll join me on this adventure.'

Of course Caitlyn is not the only high profile victim of Hopkins' rants as she has blasted Kelly Clarkson over her weight.

Katie's controversial comments came after she watched the American Idol alum perform on The Graham Norton Show, with the 40-year-old tweeting: 'Jesus, what happened to Kelly Clarkson? Did she eat all of her backing singers?'

The sharp tongued columnist added: 'Happily I have wide-screen. #grahamnorton'.

And it didn't end there.

When social media users tried to defend the singer, Katie followed up with 'Look chubsters, Kelly Clarkson had a baby a year ago. That is no longer baby weight. That is carrot cake weight. Get over yourselves'

Katie also sparked an online backlash for calling Angelina Jolie 'smug' after she revealed she underwent preventative surgery for cancer.

The controversial columnist posted a message on Twitter when the Hollywood star, who is married to Brad Pitt, revealed she had surgery to remove her ovaries and Fallopian tubes due to a second health scare.

As thousands of people took to Twitter in support of the 39-year-old mother-of-six, Ms Hopkins wrote on the social media site: 'Angelina Jolie. Smug doesn't even come close. Curating her organs to maximise life expectancy. What's next fag ash lil? Your lungs?'

She then posted a picture of the A-lister holding a cigarette and tweeted: 'This is my point.

'Fill your boots with preaching, but don't then fill your lungs with tar.'
