Ben Affleck returns to Atlanta to spend time with his children one week after announcing shock split from Jennifer Garner

It's only been one week since Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced their shock split.

And the 42-year-old still looks despondent as he gets used to living a separate life from his family unit of ten years.

On Tuesday the exhausted looking actor was spotted disembarked from a plane in Atlanta where he had flown spend time with his three children, who are staying with Jennifer while she films there.

As the news broke of the impending divorce last week, the former couple took Violet, nine, Seraphina, six, and Samuel, three, to the Bahamas to escape the frenzy.

On Friday Ben flew back to the family home in LA alone, where he was seen running errands around town minus his wedding ring.

It was during this time Ben was spotted sporting a new tattoo on his back; although It was unclear if the artwork is just a temporary, possibly for a film role, or a permanent stamp to signal a new phase in his life.

Four days later he was back on a plane again, en route to where Jennifer is shooting the film Miracles from Heaven.

The 43-year-old actress meanwhile has yet to remove her wedding band.

'The minute he was done, he packed up some gifts and got on a plane to see his kids. He is committed to his family. He wants to be with his kids,' a source close to the couple told People.com. 'It's important. He wants them to be stable.'

Affleck won't have much time in Atlanta before he has to bard another plane, this time to San Diego where he is promoting Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at this year's Comic Con.
