Rumours over Beckham move

David Beckham's Manchester United future was plunged into doubt again today as reports resurfaced linking him with a move to Barcelona.

The Spanish club's prospective new president Joan Laporta focused attention on a move for Beckham when he confirmed his intention to sign new players of the calibre of the England captain.

Fresh press reports claiming United are increasingly willing to listen to offers were followed today by top agent Jon Holmes' acknowledgement that it is "possible" Beckham may leave Old Trafford.

Beckham tight-lipped

Meanwhile David Beckham has been training up budding young football stars in Los Angeles.

During a soccer clinic session at the Home Depot Stadium in Carson, California, Beckham happily played with the enthusiastic child players but would not be drawn into commenting on his possible move to Barcelona.

He remained tight lipped over transfer talk, although when asked if he'd consider playing for an American side, he said: "Maybe one day I'll be back," said Beckham. "I've had a great time in America."

The England star signed autographs and posed for photos with young teams from all over southern California.

Advertising contracts

Earlier on, Beckham was said to have been filming the latest Addidas commercial at the stadium.

Beckham is due to arrive in Tokyo on June 18 to attend promotional events for the two Japanese companies he advertises - candy manufacturer Meiji Seika and beauty salon chain TBC.

Victoria stars with Beckham in his television and poster campaign for TBC, in what domestic media have said is probably the most expensive such contract ever in Japan at an estimated 400 million yen ($3.36 million).
