'Brondes have more fun!' Blake Lively goes to the dark side as she debuts her new hair colour on Instagram

As is the blonde bombshell known for her cascading mane of luscious locks.

But Blake Lively has decided to go to the dark side, or the shady part of it at least.

The actress debuted her new darker colour on Tuesday, giving her Instagram followers a look at her look, which she called: ‘bronde.’

Be a lady in red like Blake Lively

It was Blake Lively's time to shine on the red carpet when she stepped out to promote her new film 'The Age of Adaline'.

Blake opted for an unusual number for the appearance in New York City though, selecting a Monique L'Hullier dress from the fall 2012 ready-to-wear collection.

While the deep scarlet hue suited the actress perfectly, we weren't so convinced on the dress' fussy design...lace and leather and ruffles? It was a little overboard for us.

But that doesn't mean to say we aren't fans of the designer who turns out some stunning pieces, but this dress was just a little behind the times - Blake should've gone for something more current. Monique L'Hullier has some fab pieces for this season available at Neiman Marcus - right.

If you're loving the hue and the halterneck design but perhaps not the designer price, then see our highlighted options in the carousel below, for some fuss-free, easy to wear pieces that we can all afford.

A shade down or two from blonde, but not quite into the caramel chocolate territory, her former flaxen tresses were no more.

The 27-year-old who made her name as light haired lovely Serena van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, seemed thrilled with her new look.

Sitting on a wood and rope bridge in a mystery exotic location, she captioned the photo: 'Brondes have more fun #NoTypos-IKnowIThinkItsCrazyToo,' as she jokingly blended the words brunette and blonde.

In a second photo she can be seen gushing over a rocky mountain outcrop – the photo is captioned: 'Holy cow! A heart shaped mountain. Nothing more perfect than nature. Time to protect it!!!

She followed it with: ‘@livelokai and @world_wildlife are helping to save our animals #LetsDoOurPart #livelokai #IStillCantBelieveTheresAHeartShapedMountain--WaitTilNirvanaHearsAboutThis.'

Wearing a white T-shirt and dark coloured shorts in the photos, she seems at one with nature and her surroundings, relaxed and happy in the middle of the forest landscape.

Blake, who is mother to  seven-month-old daughter James, last flirted with a hair colour change in 2011.

She dyed her blonde locks red for the film Hick.

Debuting her titian tresses at the Time 100 Awards in April – she drew consternation and admiration for her brave move.

Her colourist at the time, Rona O Connor, said Blake had dyed her hair three weeks before the event, but looked so different no one realised it was her and they were able to keep the change a secret.

Blake’s move to a browner shade could be to do with her embracing motherhood, or potentially a movie role.

Meanwhile her husband Ryan Reynolds whom she married in 2010, got himself in hot water thanks to one of her other posts recently when he was snapped with their daughter strapped the wrong way in a baby carrier.

He defended himself on Today to Matt Lauer on Tuesday and said he knew he had made a mistake.

‘The baby's not properly secured in the vessel that I'm wearing there.'

He added: ‘ 'I'm a first-time dad, and that is not the first mistake I've made. I can guarantee you it won't be last.

'I'd never used that particular carrier before. Every other time has been perfect.'

Blake, posted the picture on Father's Day, June 21, showing the proud papa smiling as he stood on the grass in front of a marina with their daughter secured to his chest.

But their fans soon took to social media to admonish Ryan, with one saying that the device is secured around the waist first before the baby is lowered in, according to Yahoo! Parenting.

Speaking out: The 38-year-old explained: 'I'm a first-time dad, and that is not the first mistake I've made. I can guarantee you it won't be last'
