It's Prince Charming! Cheerful Charles leaves the locals smiling during visit to Carmarthenshire hospital

  • Prince Charles was visiting Llandovery Hospital in Carmarthenshire
  • He was on cheerful form and left patients who met him smiling
  • Also chatted to families who had waited outside in the pouring rain
  • Camilla was also out and about and visited a pub in Rhandir-mwyn

Prince Charles left locals smiling this morning, after touring a hospital in Wales and turning on the charm for delighted patients.

The Prince of Wales is currently in the middle of his annual visit to the principality and was on jovial form for a meeting with a group of elderly ladies at Llandovery Hospital.

Cracking jokes and asking about families, the 66-year-old royal certainly appeared to be enjoying his visit during which he opened a new X-ray unit.

Despite the rain pouring down outside, he also stopped to say hello to some of the families gathered outside to see him - and admired their collection of dragon-emblazoned national flags.

Charles and Camilla are on the third day of their annual 'Wales Week' visit to the principality, which has already seen them meet cricketers in Glamorgan and TV presenting duo Ant and Dec.

The latter meeting came during a trip to Parc Prison in Bridgend where Charles was visiting a Prince's Trust football scheme designed to help rehabilitate young offenders.

Ant and Dec are no strangers to the Prince of Wales, having met him on multiple occasions - and, perhaps as a result, seemed to get on like a house on fire during the event.

Meanwhile, Camilla has spent the morning pursuing a series of engagements of her own and began her third day in Wales with a visit to Carmarthenshire's pub of the year in Rhandir-mwyn.

After meeting locals at the Royal Oak, the Duchess of Cornwall then visited the village flower fair at St. Barnabas Church before travelling on to a second engagement at the YMCA in Llandovery.

Wales Week is one of three dedicated five-day trips made in the UK by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall and comes shortly after their visit to Scotland.

A third, to Cornwall and Devon, will come later this month.

The focus of this year's Wales Week is enterprise and community, and as a result, visits to community enterprises and small businesses dominate the schedule.

Charles and Camilla are also hosting a number of receptions at Llwynywermod, their Welsh farmhouse near Llandovery.

Speaking about Wales Week, a Clarence House spokesperson said: 'The Prince and The Duchess always enjoy their annual summer visit to Wales.

'They are very much looking forward to engaging with communities in many different parts of the country, and to seeing the rich variety of Welsh enterprise.'
