Mother tells of footballer shooting

The mother of a footballer injured in a street shooting has spoken of his ordeal.

Jon Otsemobor, 20, who has played one Liverpool Football Club first-team game, was shot in the buttocks as he sat with friends in the city's Slater Street.

An 18-year-old man from Garston, Liverpool, was also shot in the hand and thigh, and a 24-year-old man from the city's Aigburth district was shot in the leg.

Speaking from the family home today, Mrs Otsemobor said: "He doesn't even go out that much and doesn't drink. We can't believe it happened. He'd only gone out to celebrate the birth of a friend's baby.

"It's terrible, he just wants to put it all behind him and get on with his life."

The shooting took place at around 1.30am in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

All three victims were rushed to the Royal University Hospital where they received treatment.

Inspector Bob Johnson, of Merseyside Police, said Mr Otsemobor was co-operating with the police investigation. He has also returned to training with the Liverpool squad.

In a separate incident the brother of a rapper with award-winning group Big Brovaz was injured in a shooting in Reading.

Andre Shepherd, whose sister Nadia Shepherd is in the MOBO-winning band, was shot in the arms and back in an attack in the town's red-light area.
