Rap star's brother hurt in shooting

A man injured in the current wave of gun crime is the brother of a rapper with award-winning group Big Brovaz.

DJ Andre Shepherd, whose sister Nadia Shepherd recently won Best Newcomer at the Mobo Awards with the band, was one of nine people shot last week in a series of attacks which left two people dead.

He was shot in the arms and back on Friday night as he walked in the red-light area of Reading.

Two other men were also hit by shots fired from a dark coloured Volvo-type car. One of them remains in a serious condition after surgery for facial injuries.

Mother Margaret told the Daily Mirror: "Andre has been let out of hospital and I haven't really talked to him about the shooting.

"None of us know why this happened to him."

In another attack yesterday, the fourth shooting to hit the headlines in less than a week, Jon Otsemobor, 20, a Liverpool Football Club defender, was shot in the buttocks as he sat drinking with friends in a bar.

Otsemobor and two other men - an 18-year-old who was shot in the hand and thigh and a 24-year-old shot in the leg - were taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital after the attack in the early hours of the morning.

The defender, who has played one first team game, and the 18-year-old were treated and discharged. The 24-year-old remained in hospital.

A police spokeswoman said: "It is believed the incident may be linked to an argument that occurred earlier in the evening."
