'It's magic, it really is': Laura Prepon credits Scientology for her career best performances on Orange Is The New Black in new interview

Laura Prepon believes Scientology is responsible for her 'career-best' performances on Orange Is The New Black.

The 35-year-old gave an interview to Scientology magazine Celebrity in which she credits the religion's 'auditing' process for allowing her to move up and down the 'tone scale' which has given her emotional range. 'It's magic, it really is,' she said.

The former That 70s Show actress also discussed 'the Bridge', being a 'Thetan', doing her 'Purification Rundown', analyzing her 'LRH data', undergoing 'New Era Dianetics' sessions and not letting the 'MEST universe' control her.

'I feel a lot of the auditing that I’ve had helps me to be willing to go there and be free and vulnerable and really jump into these scenes wholeheartedly,' said Prepon, who plays Piper's on/off girlfriend Alex Vause on OITNB.

'There are days where it’s like, okay... let’s do this! And you have to drop all of your pre-conceived ideas, or mis-emotions, or being uncomfortable and just go there.'

She added, 'It’s so gratifying and fulfilling as an artist to be able to really be there in present time, creating, with no vias. Auditing has helped so much in getting me to this place. I have more to go, and can’t wait for what’s to come.'

In Scientology, auditing is a type of counselling session in which a person holds a pair of electrodes connected to an electrical device known as an e-meter.

The auditor then asks questions about the person's past looking for 'engrams' - painful emotional memories that supposedly inhibit the subject - which register on the e-meter as tiny electrical fluctuations.

'Honestly, I’ve become more me. The auditing has stripped away all of this charge, false ideas, decisions and mis-emotions that were affecting me,' Prepon continued.

'I recently had one of my biggest cognitions in a New Era Dianetics session. I spotted this decision I made a long time ago that was affecting me to this day. It was a huge realization. At the time of the incident, you make a postulate as a “pro-survival” decision, you know?

'Then to spot it years and years later, after peeling away these layers and then—boom, there it is—it’s mind blowing! To think of it just hiding there in my bank, affecting me.'

She claims that as she moves higher on the Bridge - the scale all members strive to climb before ultimately achieving 'clear' status - she has more access to her emotional range as an actress, or the 'Tone Scale.'

According to the Scientology Handbook, the Tone Scale ranges from 4.0 (enthusiastic) to 0.05 (apathetic, or 'nearly dead').

'I used to have this funny idea that the higher I went up the Bridge, I wouldn’t be as emotional about stuff. And I was worried because I’m an actress and as an artist, I need to tap into my emotions!' she said.

'What soon started happening was that the higher I went on the Bridge and the more auditing I had, I could move so much more freely on the Tone Scale. My emotions were so much more tangible and easy to access.'

Prepon also claims that being a Scientologist helps her deal with working 'very long, intense days with all the 'different personalities' she encounters in the industry; she even claimed she converted one unnamed producer.

'I did a show years ago and the creator of the show was wonderful, but he is a total cynic. He had heard about Scientology, but had some altered viewpoints about it,' she continued.

'After he worked with me, he came up said, “If you’re a Scientologist, I want to know about it, because you’re an amazing representation of what you’re doing over there."'
