Just another day in the life of a rock star! 5SOS drummer Ashton Irwin is mobbed by girls after jetting into LA as he celebrates turning 21

He's in one of the most popular boybands of the moment, so it comes as no surprise that Ashton Irwin has a female fan or two.

The 5SOS drummer, who is originally from Hornsby, Sydney, jetted into LAX on Wednesday before heading to shopping complex The Grove where he was mobbed by fans.

It comes after Ashton celebrated his 21st birthday on Tuesday and had spent time with family and friends in Australia before flying to the US.

When he arrived at LAX, the musician, who has more than 3.6 million Instagram followers and more than 3.9 followers on Twitter, stopped to take a selfie with a young female admirer at the airport.  

He later was spotted at The Grove in the same outfit he wore on the plane, where a crowd of girls had formed around him with their phones at the ready. 

Ashton looked more than happy to greet his fans and had a grin on his face.

Wearing a black t-shirt with white detailing, he teamed the look with pants and boots.

At the airport he was spotted with large headphones around his neck, no doubt for the long-haul flight.

He carried a simple black bag through the airport and had his passport clutched in the other.  

Ashton, who is part of 5 Seconds of Summer with bandmates Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, and Calum Hood, has just marked a milestone birthday, turning 21.

He shared on Instagram and Twitter, a picture of himself at a restaurant table and held a '21' decoration. 

He captioned the Instagram post: 'So where do I sign up for the senior benefits???'

Earlier this week he also shared a picture to Instagram of himself holding a possum at Taronga Zoo. 

'Today I found out I look like many animals such as this little possum... THE ZOO RULED @tarongazoo.'

He returned to the US where he and the 5SOS boys will be playing concert dates on their Rock Out With Your Socks Out tour.
