When the going gets tough, the tough get hot - and Britney Spears is looking better than ever since breaking up with her boyfriend last month.

The singer, 33, showed off her trim figure while making a coffee run in Westwood, California, on Wednesday.

The Piece of Me star looked fit and happy as she settles into being single again since the surprise split from boyfriend of eight months Charlie Ebersol in June.

The Toxic hit-maker's tanned and toned legs were on full display in thigh-skimming khaki shorts, and Britney's favourite towering blue wedge heels.

The star's slim waist was shown off to full effect in the simple grey tank top, as she carried two coffees from the Corner Bakery Cafe as she stepped out alone without her sons.

The mother-of-two covered her head in a well-used cowboy hat, with her bright blonde ponytail swept over one shoulder.

Blue shades, white shirt, walked into the room you know she made our eyes burn...that was our rendition of Lana Del Rey's, "Blue Jeans."

It's fitting because Britney really did make our eyes burn with that ensemble, harsh but true.

There's no issue in looking casual or looking dressy, but if you plan to look cas-dressy..let the outfit meet in the middle.

Britney wore a dressy blouse, with black cargo style shorts, blue suede platform sandals and Ray-Ban sunglasses.

You made a song titled, "Pretty Girls," own that title Brit! We would have paired her shorts with a white tank, black ankle boots from Isabel Marant and the mirrored shades...simple!

Although, we weren't a fan of her clothing choice, we did dig her shades. Mirrored sunglasses are in and celebs like Jessica Alba, Justin Bieber, Vanessa Hudgens, and Beyonce are rockin' the mirror look.

After the split was announced Ebersol posted a cryptic message on his Instagram page alongside a short video of himself with his dog.

The reality TV producer wrote: 'We are nothing if we are not a collection of the scars, tattoos, and smiles of a life well lived.

The Biblical verse makes reference to the need for compassion, kindness and humility but it's not clear if his words are directed at Britney.

Britney has two sons - Jayden and Sean - with ex-husband Kevin Federline, her former backing dancer whom she married in October 2004 and divorced in 2007.
