Off-duty Eddie Redmayne cuts a casual figure as he enjoys coffee break with female friend in central London

He's had an incredible - and incredibly busy - year.

So it's probably fair to say that actor Eddie Redmayne has deserved a coffee break - which is precisely what he was enjoying on Thursday morning.

The British star, who earned an Academy Award for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking, cut a casual figure as he emerged in Covent Garden for his caffeine fix with a female pal.

Dressing down for the occasion, the 33 year-old wore a simple ensemble consisting of beige chinos and a khaki-coloured T-shirt.

He added a pair of slip-on shoes - crucially, without socks - and capped it with a leather belt.

Adding a nod to his upper class roots, he wore his collars up in a preppy, public school style.

His female companion wore a plain blue shirt over a pair of rolled-up jeans and comfy trainers.

Warner Brothers recently announced that The Theory Of Everything star Eddie will be starring in Harry Potter spin-off: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

Eddie will play magizoologist Newt Scamander, 'who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures.’

The tale is set in New York, 70 years before the saga of boy wizard "Harry Potter," and is described as neither a prequel or sequel, but rather an extension of author JK Rowling's popular Wizarding World of magic.

The movie's director David Yates was thrilled to have Eddie on board at the time as he said: ‘I couldn't be more excited about the prospect of working with him as we start this new adventure in J.K. Rowling's wonderful world, and I know she feels the same way’.

Yates - who helmed the final four Harry Potter films in the eight-movie franchise – added: ‘Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit and humanity.

Actress Katherine Waterston was recently cast as the female lead in the flick after reportedly being out the likes of Kate Upton, Saoirse Ronan and Dakota Fanning.

J K Rowling hinted an American version of Hogwarts will feature in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The best-selling author is currently writing the screenplay for the spin-off movie and she suggested an American wizarding school may be featured in the movie.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them was originally a textbook from the Harry Potter universe, on the syllabus for students at Hogwarts.

In 2001, Rowling published the book under the pseudonym Newt Scamander - the book itself purports to be Harry Potters own copy, and features anecdotes and doodles by his friend Ron and a foreword from Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set for release in November 2016.
