Five Israeli soldiers have been killed and five wounded in a vehicle blast in the southern area of Gaza, reports have said.

Al Arabiya television has reported that an Israeli Army vehicle was blown up.

The militant Islamic Jihad group said it was behind the ambush near Rafah on Gaza's border with Egypt and that all those inside the vehicle were killed.

At least ten Palestinians were also wounded in the blast, caused by a landmine.

The blast comes one day after militants killed six Israeli soldiers in a troop carrier in a Gaza City neighbourhood.
