Jen makes Friends with Barclaycard

Friends star Jennifer Aniston has been recruited by Barclaycard to front its new advertising campaign, it was reported today.

The actress is understood to feature in a series of adverts being launched in June which aim to promote the card as being "the key to funding life's ups and downs".

Aniston, who is married to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, is believed to have been chosen for the adverts in a bid to appeal to more female customers.

The campaign is the first work to be produced by Barclaycards' new advertising agency, Bartle Bogle Hegarty, who have recently taken over from DDB.

Credit cards 'too expensive'

It follows a bad few months for Barclaycard in which Matthew Barrett, the chief executive of Barclays, said he would not borrow money on credit cards because it was too expensive.

The group also had to withdraw adverts for a card offering a "0% forever" interest rate after the Office of Fair Trading said they were misleading.

The OFT complained the adverts failed to make it clear the 0% APR only applied to balances transferred to the credit card and not any new purchases made.

It is not the first time Barclaycard has used celebrities in adverts, with previous campaigns featuring Angus Deayton, Dudley Moore and Rowan Atkinson.

Barclaycard declined to comment on the reports.
