Strapped to his hospital bed, this is Tom Borwick (pictured above, main), the son of recently elected Kensington MP Victoria Borwick (pictured above, left), after he was beaten unconscious by a girl gang. The 27-year-old was set upon by three women as he queued for food in the KFC in London's Leicester Square. He was knocked-out after receiving a series of violent punches and kicks to the head when the clash spilled out onto the pavement outside the fast-food restaurant. His politician mother, who had served as Boris Johnson's deputy, slammed security guards for not coming to the app writers aid. KFC has launched an investigation into the incident, as detectives release pictures of two of the women (pictured above, right) they want to speak to in connection with the assault.

But this herd of horses took in a lonely penguin as one of their own and snuggled up with their curious new companion. Two-year-old Indigo - a western lowland gorilla - was fascinated by the mother and her flock of ducklings after they waddled into the pond in his compound at Durrell Wildlife Park, Jersey. The young creature circled around the ducks and tried to reach out to touch them with his right arm. However, the cautious mother duck - perhaps just as wary as the intrigued gorilla - kept her ducklings just out of reach.

Amy Laking, 29, was travelling on Wilton Lane in Guisborough yesterday afternoon when she spotted the 'massive' snake in the road. She quickly snapped a photo of the creature before police were called to the scene. Police officers arrived at the scene and notified Wilton Vets in Guisborough, who sent staff to collect the snake. Veterinary nurse Debbie Rowley said: 'We were shocked it was so big. It is in good condition - a good weight and a healthy looking snake.'
