Walkout threatened at Balearic hotels

British holidaymakers heading to Spain this summer face the threat of massive industrial action, it emerged today.

Up to 80,000 hotel workers in Ibiza, Majorca and Minorca could strike in September as unions press for changes in tourism policy. They want an agreement which includes measures to extend the tourist season.

They claim the government is encouraging holiday home ownership, which does not generate wealth for workers.
