'New Alcatraz' to open in New York

An electric chair is set to become the unlikely centre-piece of a new American museum, already dubbed 'the new Alcatraz'.

The museum will open at Sing Sing prison, 30 miles outside of New York.

Those who have met their death on the macabre chair include famous spies Ethel and Julius Rosenberg.

Locals in the Westchester County region are hoping Sing Sing will at least rival San Francisco's Alcatraz, which has around 1.3 million visitors every year.

While Alcatraz no longer houses inmates Sing Sing is still home to more than 1,700 prisoners.
