All Memphis attractions

We stayed in the Heartbreak Hotel. Elvis, we thought,it has to be good. It's supposed to be a 3 star hotel but Elvis must be turning in his grave to see the dump it's become!

The reception area is the best part of the hotel but first impressions can be deceptive. Turn the corner to the lifts, sorry LIFT, and the exhilaration begins to wane. The solitary lift wouldn't be out of place in an English high rise.

And the rooms! Fans have even removed the knobs off the furniture as souvenirs.

Across the road is Graceland. Well worth a visit, even if you can't photograph or record inside for your mementos. Unfortunately the gift shops don't seem to cater much for foreign visitors. We couldn't get a DVD of Graceland in PAL format. We were told we'd get it on the web site but that isn't possible either.

But there's more to this City than Elvis. You must check out the Sun Studios; Beale Street; the Stax record museum and especially the Rock 'n' Soul Museum, fantastic, as are the Peabody Ducks - no visit to Memphis is complete without seeing the ducks once at least.

There's a free shuttle that runs from Heartbreak to the other attractions but you must visit Sun Studios at least once.

Incidentally, we ran into Susannah Leigh while we were there. What a doll!! I had my photo taken with her. Unfortunately it didn't come out. Never mind, next time we'll visit her at home!
