Passengers on a luxury liner have been struck down with the contagious norovirus, P&O Cruises said last night.

About 200 on board the five-year-old Oceania contracted the 24-hour bug, which causes nausea and vomiting.

A spokesman said about 130 of the 2,015 passengers were still ill and the ship is undergoing an 'extensive programme' of sanitation and disinfection to try to stop the virus spreading.

Oceania is on a 17-night Mediterranean cruise that left Southampton on May 19.
