'Don't play the moral card, Joel!': Big Brother's Jack loses his cool when Joel gives up an endurance task to scoff pizza

Joel angered his housemates when he was duped into spending £2,500 of the winner’s prize money on a small frozen pizza over the weekend.

And the Welsh lad once again came face-to-face with his self-confessed ‘Achilles heel’ on Wednesday night’s episode of Big Brother, giving up on a group task to gorge on takeaway pizza.

While the rest of the gang weren't bothered by his decision, Jack – who spent much of Day 57 moaning that he hadn't eaten properly in over a week – was furious at his pal for throwing in the towel, leading to a tense exchange between them.

The drama occurred during an endurance task to win back some prize fund money, involving the housemates each holding up a bag of money for as long as possible.

Chloe was in charge of secretly allocating a cash sum to each person according to how well she thought they would perform, correctly pegging competitive Christian and Danny as the top earners.

Naturally, Big Brother threw in a few obstacles along the way to tempt them to give up, including a pretty ice-cream vendor, a phone call from Jack’s dad – which he refused to answer – and a pile of piping hot pizzas.

Joel could barely contain his excitement at the sight of his favourite food, visibly drooling as he watched the housemates who had already failed the task tucking into the sizzling slices.

He opted to give up so he could indulge in the takeaway, declaring, ‘Everyone who knows me will understand.’

The down-to-earth contestant later explained in the Diary Room, ‘I gave in after three hours and 40 minutes and ate the pizza. I was hoping people would forget about my ordeal with pizza on the weekend, but now they won't. Pizza is my Achilles heel. I respect Danny, Jack and Sam for staying out there.’

The final straw came when Big Brother announced there would be an auction for the housemates to win back their confiscated suitcases.

After four days of wearing the same smelly clothes, everyone but Danny and Christian – who were still going strong 12 hours into the task – opted to take part in the secret bid, declaring how much money they’d be willing to sacrifice from the winner's fund in order to get their possessions back.

Only Sam and Jack actually bid, however, each saying they’d forsake £100, and both visibly squirmed under the gaze of their self-sacrificing housemates.

Team player Chloe diplomatically told them: ‘Those two guys are standing out there all day. I think the nicest idea would be to stick together and not waste any money from what they’re trying to win. They’ve not had the opportunity to get their suitcases back.’

‘You only ever wear your dressing gown anyway!’, she rightly told Jack.

But when Joel chimed in, saying, ‘Those two are out there, earning money for everyone!’, Jack lost his cool. He fired back, ‘Don’t play the moral card Joel, you gave up to eat pizza.’

The frosty atmosphere remained as the task came to an end and Chloe’s secret mission was revealed.

Christian, Danny and Sam’s perseverance meant they’d collectively added 21k to the prize money, and spirits were high as the group celebrated.

However, poor Jack was once again left red-faced as it emerged his so-called best friend Chloe had tipped him to be the first to give up, allocating him a bag worth £0.

‘I’m so surprised at Jack, he’s done amazing’, she said of his valiant effort in the Diary Room.
