Those arriving back in Manchester today on a specially-arranged flight (including Esther and Natalie Whitton, left) said they felt sorry for the Tunisians who were now out of work and insisted they felt safe in the country. Long queues were seen at Enfidha airport (bottom right) near Sousse, where the ISIS attack took place two weeks ago.

The father of the British backpacker murdered in Thailand cried as graphic pictures of the victims bodies were shown in court this morning. Tony Witheridge lowered his head and wept as he and his son saw pictures of Hannah Witheridge's bloodied body on the beach in Koh Tao. His daughter 23, originally from Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, and David Miller, 24, from Jersey, were brutally killed on the island last September. In court a forensic officer said that the two victims had suffered severe head injuries and Ms Witheridge had been raped.

Jane Brooks, 75, has been told she is no longer needed at Dove House Hospice in Cottingham, Hull, after working for the charity for 29 years because she is unable to use its computers. The great-grandmother said she has been left feeling 'shattered' by the treatment she has received from the charity she helped build with her late husband.

'The paint came off pretty easily, but I don't think she wanted it to come off,' Farmer said. 'We're still cleaning paint off the floor.' Then, the following day, while Farmer was speaking on the phone about Anistyn's attempt at home decorating, she found that her young daughter was again up to mischief (left). The mother posted a picture on Facebook of her livewire daughter having rolled out several feet of drawing paper across the floor, with the caption: 'She must think I'm ready for round 2.'

This is the shocking moment a taxi driver refused to stop after hitting a pram with an 11-month-old baby girl inside. The 42-year-old female driver - who had already been banned from driving following an earlier accident - carried on driving despite crushing the pram. The baby was killed following the crash in Kurchatov in the Kursk Oblast region of Russia.

Nuzzling up together on the frosty ground in the Falkland Islands, this might seem like the most unlikely of friendships. But this herd of horses took in a lonely penguin as one of their own and snuggled up with their curious new companion. The heart-warming pictures were snapped by Sarah Crofts, of the Falklands Conservation group, who spotted the unusual alliance as she was feeding her three horses. They were taken at the Cape Pembrokeshire Nature Reserve, five miles outside of Stanley, the country's capital city.

Two-year-old Indigo - a western lowland gorilla - was fascinated by the mother and her flock of ducklings after they waddled into the pond in his compound at Durrell Wildlife Park, Jersey. The young creature circled around the ducks and tried to reach out to touch them with his right arm. However, the cautious mother duck - perhaps just as wary as the intrigued gorilla - kept her ducklings just out of reach.

The exhibition, called Celts: Art and Identity, will open at the British Museum in London in September and continue in Edinburgh in March 2016. It will be the first major British exhibition in 40 years to tell the story of the Celts through the stunning objects they made including a distinctive horned helmet (pictured left), beautiful brooches and mirrors (top middle and right) and an intricate bowl (bottom right).

Amy Laking, 29, was travelling on Wilton Lane in Guisborough yesterday afternoon when she spotted the 'massive' snake in the road. She quickly snapped a photo of the creature before police were called to the scene. Police officers arrived at the scene and notified Wilton Vets in Guisborough, who sent staff to collect the snake. Veterinary nurse Debbie Rowley said: 'We were shocked it was so big. It is in good condition - a good weight and a healthy looking snake.'
