Madonna has vowed to get straight back on her horse following her birthday riding accident.

The 47-year-old superstar sustained three cracked ribs, a broken collar bone and a fractured hand when she fell from a horse given to her as a present by husband Guy Ritchie.

She took the horse out for the first time on Tuesday when the accident happened within the grounds of her £9million Ashcombe House retreat on the Wiltshire/Dorset border.

Speaking to The Sun, Madonna said: "I am grateful and overwhelmed by everyone's good wishes.

"As soon as the doctors give me the okay, I expect to be right back on a horse and riding again."

She is currently recuperating at her rural hideaway with her film director husband and her children, Rocco, five, by Ritchie, and Lourdes, eight, her first child, by Carlos Leon.
