Harry Potter's flying car does a vanishing act

The "flying" Ford Anglia used in the Harry Potter films has been stolen, the police said today. The blue Ford Anglia 7990 TD went missing from the South West Film Studios in St Agnes, Cornwall.

Devon and Cornwall police said the car vanished between 5.30pm on Wednesday, October 26 and 4.15pm the following day.

A police spokesman said: "For those who have not seen the Harry Potter films this is the car that flies in the movie and is very well known.

"It is believed that the vehicle could not have been driven, therefore it is suspected that it would have to have been towed or full lifted from the scene."

Anyone who may have seen the vehicle or who may have information about this distinctive vehicle is asked to contact the police on 08452 777 444 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

The car, which was in a poor state of repair, was under a tarpaulin at the site, said a police spokesman.

"The thieves may not have known its connection with the films, and just thought it was a classic car, or it may have been a Harry Potter freak," added the spokesman.

PC Mark Durkowski, from Peranporth, said the Ford Anglia was in the grounds of the film studios and visible from the road.

"It was very much in the open," he said, adding that he did not believe the majority of people in the area had any idea of the car's connection with the Harry Potter films.
