The search is being stepped up this weekend for a missing Wisconsin doctor who left his vacation home on foot after reportedly having an argument with his wife.

Dr Jeffrey Whiteside, 63, was last seen at the house and boat slip in Ephraim on June 29 and was reported missing July 1.

He had multiple procedures scheduled at the Appleton Medical Center on June 30 but did not show up for work and did not respond when medical staff paged him.

Door County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Pat McCarty told the Daily Mail Online on Friday: 'As time passages, our sense of urgency and concern raises with every day that goes by.'

Last week officers went door-to-door in Ephraim and have canvassed the area twice.

The nearby Eagle Harbor was searched with the sheriff's marine patrol boat, and both an underwater and aerial bridge search were also conducted, McCarty told Daily Mail Online.

This Sunday, 15 volunteers and five dogs from Headwaters Search and Rescue K9 will search the area through Sunday, McCarty told Appleton Post-Crescent

Around 50 of Whiteside's past and present employees also plan to search Ephraim on the same day.

Ryan Nadboralski, who has worked with Whiteside for 11 years, said the sheriff department asked the group not to set up its search effort last weekend.

Nadboralski also claims that Whiteside's family members asked the group to search on Sunday instead of today (Friday).

'It's unfathomable to us as to why they would not have his picture posted up and down Door County in every store front,' Nadboralski told The Post-Crescent. 'It's very odd.

'I'm worried that something more is going on than what the public knows. We want to know if there are any details that could help find him.'

Chief Deputy McCarty said two investigators had been assigned to Whiteside's case.

He told the Daily Mail Online that it is still unknown if the doctor's disappearance is considered suspicious - but that tips and potential sightings continue to come in.

A missing person alert sent out by the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center and originating from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department said Whiteside and his wife had an 'argument' and last spoke by phone on June 29.

The alert also claimed a gun was missing from the family's vacation home and that Whiteside had a history of depression.

McCarty said that after speaking with investigators, he believed the alleged argument was more of a 'disagreement' and that he did not know what it was about.

He said that Whiteside 'did have some guns' but it has not yet been confirmed if one is missing from the home.

McCarty also told the Daily Mail Online that Whiteside has no medical conditions 'that we know of'.

He added: 'There are a lot of missing pieces here that we are trying to fill in.'
