Waitrose recalls ready meals

Supermarket chain Waitrose is recalling 11 types of chilled ready meal because they could contain bristles from faulty production equipment, it has emerged.

Customers should not eat any of the meals which could be affected, the store warned.

The recall was sparked after a piece of equipment used in production was damaged and a customer complained to Waitrose.

Packs affected are only those with use by dates between August 24 2005 and September 5 2005.

Customers are advised to take the meals back to their local Waitrose store for a full refund.

A Waitrose spokesperson said: "The number of individual meals likely to be affected is very small. However, Waitrose has the highest standards of customer safety and we have taken this step as a precautionary measure."

The recalled meals are: Vegetable Cumberland Pie 400g; Cottage Pie 400g; Fisherman's Pie 400g; Fisherman's Pie 700g; Cumberland Pie 400g; Mashed Potato 450g; Liver and Bacon with Mashed Potato 400g; Bubble and Squeak 450g; Creamy Mash 450g; Mini Liver and Onions with Mashed Potato 300g; and Sausage and Mash 400g.
