Italy) Having scored against France, Hungary and Austria in the 1978 World Cup, Paolo Rossi served a twoyear ban for match-fixing before reappearing as Italy's saviour four years later in Spain.

Rossi scored a hat-trick against Brazil, two in the semi-final against Poland, and the first goal against Germany in the final to finish as top scorer in the tournament with six goals, enabling Italy to win the World Cup for the third time.
