'Here it is! The exclusive first look at the new poster for #PanMovie. What do you think?!,' Hugh had captioned the shot.

One fan commented 'you don't even look like yourself!' while another confused user wrote 'how is it possible for someone like you to be that ugly!'

But the feedback was almost overwhelmingly positive, with plenty of comments like 'you looks so beautiful' and 'U are seriously looking handsome!! I love you.'

The shot also featured Levi Miller, another Australian actor, as Peter Pan, Rooney Mara as TIger Lily and Tron Legacy's Garrett Hedlund as Hook.

The blockbuster has a budget of $150million and will be released internationally in October.

Hugh will next year be seen in two movies - Eddie The Eagle, a biographical film about British skier Eddie Edwards, and X-Men: Apocalypse, which will see him reprise his role as Wolverine for the second last time.

Back in May he appeared on the Dr. Oz show and revealed that Wolverine 3, scheduled for a 2017 release,  'is my last time' playing the iconic character.

'I felt like it was the right time to do it,' he explained, adding '[I've played Wolverine for] 17 years, I never thought in a million years it would last this long.'
