Weird, wonderful London: website's visitors give the capital a new look

They are London's most famous landmarks as you've never seen them before.

St Paul's Cathedral is transformed into a space rocket, the USS Enterprise bursts out of the London Eye and the Gherkin towers over the City of London as it goes on the rampage as a Fifties sci-fi robot.

The images are by visitors to the Londonist website that challenged them to make the ultimate "touched up" image of the capital.

"We wanted to find a way to involve readers," said co-editor Matt Brown.

"Some entries are stunning. The talent of people is amazing.

"However, there are some awful attempts: we're pretty fed up with seeing the Gherkin with a funny hat."

The site will launch a contest this week to find the most popular image.
